SUSTAINABILITY
Looking after and giving back to the environment is an important part of the food supply chain. And we've always recognised our responsibility to set a good example and give back where we can.
We have a robust waste management and sustainability process. We continually look for ways to improve and strengten our methods to help others and minimise our impact on the environment.
Some of our sustainable and waste management initiatives include the below:
CHARITIES
OZ HARVEST
Several times a week, Australia's leading food rescue charity, OZ Harvest, picks up left over produce from our factory. OZ Harvest collects quality, left over food and distributes it to people in need and divert food waste from landfill.
SALVATION ARMY
We deliver quality surplus product to the Salvation Army every Christmas to help feed people in need during what is a trying time for many.
BACK TO THE FARMS
We believe in saving and reusing as much edible produce as possible, including offcuts! Vegetable trimmings and offcust are collected throughout the day and taken back to the farm at the end of the day as a tasty snack for cattle.
FOOD WASTE RECYCLING SYSTEM
To maintain best practice in waste management, we use the Pulpmaster 5000, a sustainable food waste recycling system. It diverts food waste generated in a commercial kitchen from landfill and turns it into a resource for green power. This method reduces the need for more landfill sites and further land degradation.
The Pulpmaster System uses recycled food waste to generate biogas, a clean energy resource based on renewable sources. Biogas is an excellent fuel for heating purposes and generating electricity and is one of the most important resources for reaching our renewable energy targets. Plus, it minimises greenhouse gas emissions as it reduces need to burn fossil fuels.
Ultimately, the Pulpmaster helps us dispose of our food waste responsibly by giving back and minimising any negative environmental impacts.
We're always looking for ways to improve our sustainability. If you're interested in learning more or collaborating with us on a related initiative, please get in touch.
